Frequently Asked Questions

Matwork Pilates Classes?

Matwork Pilates is safe, technique orientated, rehabilitative exercise class that is more cost effective than the Reformer type of Pilates using body weight resistance for functional stability. You can transfer your matwork skills into your daily life and practise at home to take your improvements from the classes into life and beyond.

Reformer or Matwork Classes first?

If you are new to Pilates, you would be recommended to start with the mat first so you can build confidence and focus on the basic techniques of correct Pilates practise before adding the machine.

Reformer classes can be a great dynamic challenge requiring more balance on the machine and a  knowledge of the machine itself - reformer and mat-work can make a great combination!

How to begin?

Pilates is very inclusive so you are encouraged to start at even if you have poor body confidence and would describe yourself as having no ability. In mat-work, we still use equipment to not only challenge you but also to give you support and aid the access of exercises that you are finding more difficult. Exercises are graded easy to challenging and we'll look after you.

What to wear?

I once had a guy wear a flat cap throughout the session! Wear comfortable loose clothing that you'd wear for exercise and grip socks are a great addition. We have plenty of mats for you to use and all equipment at the studio so come along - flat cap not required!

Taught by Professionals?

It's worth being aware that Pilates is quite an un-regulated profession where training courses can be online with minimal examinations. You can have confidence that our instructors have received in-person training, from the APPI training method for Health Professionals. APPI is an excellent Physio Pilates training company that ensures unpinning knowledge is taught along with the exercise method, to ensure the quality of our teaching putting the safety of our clients first.

How long will it take to get stronger?

You need to attend at least for six weeks to see visible muscular growth. The nervous system and balance system begin to adapt immediately and you will feel better from doing the session as you learn to use the muscles you already have. As a result, beneficial changes can made immediately!

How do I prolong the results of Pilates?

And finally ..... this is a structured plan that takes time and regular input. Try and attend regularly at least once or twice per week if you can. 'Rome wasn't build in a day' is one of my favourite phrases as it reminds me not to rush and commit to making strong steady progress. You will see results if you invest regularly in your body. Your body requires maintenance and will need regular input.
